Mil-Std-129P Change Notice 4

Mil-Std-129P Change Notice 4 creates a few new challenges for compliance with Mil-Std-129P. The most complicated is the requirement to list Serial Numbers and UIDs in a 2D (PDF417) barcode symbol, as shown here. This symbol must include contract and shipment numbers, the CLIN and other details as well.

Std-Barc can generate the 2D UID/Serial Number symbol as a separate 2-inch label for unit and exterior containers. It can also appear on UID/Serial Number Lists.

Mil-Std-129P Change 4 requires two new barcodes for exterior containers. The Contract Line Item (CLIN) and Shipment Numbers will now have to be barcoded, in addition to the NSN, Contract and CAGE.

Traditional linear Serial Number barcodes will continue to be required, with an additional 2D (PDF417) barcode symbol listing the serial numbers. When UIDs are required, the UID (UII) of each item.

This two label example shows an Exterior Container Label with one serial number (left) and four additional serial number barcodes (right). The second label includes the 2D serial number data structure including IUIDs. Also available as a DOD RFID format.

When more than five serialized items are shipped in an exterior container, the serial number barcodes should be produced on a full sheet, such as the Std-Barc UID/Serial Number List.

Mil-Std-129P Notice 4 also requires the UID data (UII) be included in the 2D (PDF417) symbol on the DD1348-1A, as defined by DoD 4000.25-M-1.
