UID Label Formats

The format of UID labels defined by Mil-Std-130M can vary depending on the UID Construct chosen and the amount of space available for part marking. The complete UID Construct2 label (top, left) is the preferred format, using the Part and Serial Numbers.  The alternative is Construct 1, which applies a single sequence of serial numbers to every item marked by an entity (CAGE).

When space permits, it is preferrable that the label have linear barcodes, text data (referred to as the Human Readable Interface or HRI) and the 2D symbol. If space is limited, tthe linear barcodes may be eliminated. "In cases of severe space limitations," it is permissable to use just the 2D symbol.

Release of a format with just the 2D symbol is planned, pending identification of an appropriately sized, commonly available label stock . For now it is recommended that the Basic+HRI format be printed on 1x4-inch labels and cut to size.
